Pink Saturday

Pink Saturday
Vintage Deer Planters

Welcome to Pink Saturday.   I have decided to share some of my vintage deer planters this week.  A number of years ago my sister gave me a vintage duck planter for my birthday.  After that first planter, I began searching for other vintage planters with an animal theme.  My DH is a hunter and fisherman and I thought this would be a great way to include his interests into my "collecting".  I began finding vintage deer planters and my collection started to grow.  I presently have over 100 of the vintage planters.  The majority are deer and birds.  Many of the deer are displayed in our bedroom as shown here.  Most are in our home here in Arizona but some at our vacation home in Kentucky.  I also have a number of lamps and t.v. lamps in my collection.

Today I'm showing the deer on the shelf above our bed.  The furniture in our bedroom was custom designed to display my collection of deer and bird planters.  I selected one of the pink planters to feature in this post.  Hope you enjoy seeing these.

Thanks to Beverly  over at How Sweet the Sound.  Check out her blog to find a list of Pink Saturday participants this week.

I'd like to recommend Grace's blog Pink in the City for your viewing pleasure.

Inchies on Painted Canvas

Diana on Fiber Art Traders (FAT) recently asked members to post ideas for inchies.  This is a painted canvas with inchies from a Christmas inchie swap on Fabric in Altered Arts a few years ago.  Even though it is Christmas, it hangs on my studio wall all year.  I'm inspired by all the work that went into these little works of art.

Fabric Postcard

This is my February Fabric Postcard for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  The fabric is leftovers from the 9 Patch Pizzaz quilt that I am currently quilting.  I hope to finish the quilting today.  I took a break for the cruise and adopting a rescue dog.  You can read about these events in previous posts.

The embellishment is a piece of costume jewelry that I picked up at the thrift store years ago.  The colors were perfect for the fabrics from the 9 Patch Pizzaz.  The edges are finished with a couched novelty yarn from my stash.  I continue to work on my goals of recycling, repurposing, and using things in my stash.  I had fun revisiting my stash and seeing items from the past in a new light.  Something old can indeed become something new.

The postcard will go in the mail tomorrow to Norma in her new home in Florida.  Hope she likes it.

Pink Saturday

Convergence Quilt

Welcome to Pink Saturday hosted by Beverly at How Sweet the Sound.  Check out her blog for a list of all participants this week.  Also I'd like to recommend Barb at Dog Mom Diva.  Pay her blog a visit and check out her Pink Saturday Posts.

This week I've decided to feature one of my Convergence Quilts.  The Convergence Quilt was designed by quilter, Ricky Tims.

Isn't this fabric great.  The fabric was purchased a great little quilt shop in Kentucky, Granny's Attic.  Unfortunately Granny's was a victim of the economy and closed it doors last summer.  I was forturnate to purchase a large selection of fabric prior to the store's closing.

I just love the look of a convergence quilt.  I have embellished the quilt by adding appliques of flower petals and leaves to the outer edge of the quilt.  You can see this in the photo above.  I took flower petals and leaves and made it appear that the flower was cascading onto the quilt center from the border.  I'm using the same technique on a Nine Patch Pizzaz that I'm currently quilting.  I love to quilt and hope you enjoy seeing one of my creations.  Happy Pink Saturday.

Think Spring

I've decided that it's time to think SPRING.  I arrranged this little display in my living/dining room.  The lovely Miss Rabbit was a gift from my DH a few years ago.  Instead of an Easter basket, I used a vintage ice bucket.  The quilt in the background is a Dimensional Bow Tie.  I made the quilt a few years ago following instructions on the Simply Quilts tv program.

Letter G Quiltie from Penny

In the Fabric in Altered Arts 2 group we are doing a letter of the alphabet quiltie swap each month.  The letter for January was "G".  Penny is the hostess of the swap and she decided to throw in a challenge for January.  Our theme was Glitzy Garments.  I was lucky to receive Penny's lovely quiltie.  This is a fun group and the quilties are just the right size to swap.  You can see my "G" quiltie here.  I received the quiltie while we were on the cruise and am just finding time to post the photo.  Thanks Penny!

Flowers from my "Valentine"

We have been so busy with the new doggie that I forgot to take a photo of my Valentine's floral arrangement.  I took the photo this morning and you can see that one of the roses is completely open.  I love the colors in the bouquet.  The copper basket is perfect on the table in the living room.  My "Valentine" has great tastes doesn't he.  (Of course he picked me!)

Today is  my son's birthday.  It seems like only yesterday that he was born during a snow storm in Flagstaff.  He was a month early but arrived healthy  and weighing 5 lbs 11 oz.  Today he is all grown up and  has a wonderful family of his own.  Happy Birthday John from MOM.

Meet Cody - The Newest Member of the Family

Isn't he the most adorable dog.  He arrived in our family on Saturday and has stolen everyone's heart.  We have named him Cody.  (Actually my DH chose the name)

On Saturday, I left our home to go shopping at Penneys.  As I was driving into the Tempe Marketplace, the pet store had a sign outside advertising Adoption Day.  I parked the car and went inside.  The rest of the story is rather obvious.  We have been dogless for over a year and our cat died in the fall. We missed animals in our lives.

When I walked into the pet store I saw Cody immediately and started asking questions.  He had been picked up as a stray (can you believe that).  He is microchipped but the phone # has been disconnected.  He was listed in Craigs List with no response.  He is an older dog.  According to his chip about 6 years old.  I couldn't reach my DH by phone so they held him until I could drive home and get him.  Of course he loved him immediately and we filled out the adoption papers and Cody came home with us.

He is the most laid back dog.  My Granddaughters came to visit yesterday and took him for numerous walks.  My sister brought her two dogs to visit and they seemed to like one another.  We are so pleased and feel that we have the perfect pet for our lifestyle of motorhome travel and relaxing at home.

Welcome Cody.

Thank You Viv for all the Valentine goodies

My camera was not cooperating but I think you can see that Viv filled the heart box to the brim.  Items includes this lovely bracelet that Vic made especially for me.  She also made a needle felted heart pin cushion.  Box included lots of Mary Engelbrett scrapbooking items and a notepad.  Also included were rubber stamps, buttons, crystals, ribbons and a variety of Valentines and heart shapes.  I just love the box of goodies.

Thanks Viv.  I've already worn the lovely bracelet.

My Creations for Amour Swap

The top photo is of a Valentine Garland I designed for Vivian.  It includes three larger hearts and two smaller hearts.  They are fabric hearts.  I embellished the hearts with lace and ribbon and photos.  The edges are finished with a satin stitch.
I used one of the hearts to decorate the pink photo album that I purchased.
Last I made a  little fabric insert for a heart frame I found.  I stamped the friends message below a machine blanket stitched heart.

Valentine's Day Amour Swap

This is the box I made for Amour swap hosted by Cathy are Treasures Heirlooms.  The top photo is the box ready for mailing to my partner.  My partner for the swap is Vivian at vivs whimsy.  She has a lovely blog.  Be sure to check it out.
I purchased the box on line and then painted the box with pink spray paint.  I decorated the top using techniques from Paulette Insall's Organic Dimensions class.  I then began collecting the items to include in the box.  You can see the filled box and a photo of items before placing in the box.  My next post will about three of the items I made for the box.  This was a great swap.  So much fun making and gathering items that would fit in the box.

I received a heart box full of items from Vivian.  I will post photos of those in a later post also.

Special thanks to Cathy for hosting this event.

Pink Saturday and A Special Valentine

A Happy Pink Saturday to y'all.  I've missed the past two Pink Saturday's.  My DH and I were on a cruise to the Mexican Rivera.  Guess you might call it a Valentine Cruise but it actually was our Christmas present to each other.  We had a wonderful time but I'm glad to be back to my Pink Saturday posts.

Today I'm sharing this lovely Valentine's Card I received from my niece, Alexa.  Isn't this card lovely.  The little hearts on the tree are so tiny and delicate.  They are embellished with glitter.  Background has been stamped with small heart stamps.  I just love this card and of course, love Alexa.  She is a very creative young lady.  She is returning to her crafting and stamping after a few year's "vacation" raising my two beautiful neices, Camille and Abby.   I think you will agree that she is very talented.

The seal below was on the inside of the card.  Thank you Alexa for the lovely Valentine's Card.

Vintage Cupid Brooch

I came across this vintage cupid brooch recently in my box of vintage jewelry.  A few years ago I was able to find some great vintage pieces for use in my altered fabric art.  This is one of those pieces.  I haven't found the perfect place to use it and it remains in my stash.  When I saw it, I immediately thought of Valentine's Day.

Fabric Valentines

These are two of the Fabric Valentines that I made for friends.  The vintage Valentines are copies from my collection.  They were printed onto fabric and fused to the fabric heart.  I used Peltex as the batting on these Valentines.  Edges were finished with a satin stitch and a narrow silver trim was sewn inside the satin stitch.

Cliff Divers of Acapulco

If you look closely at the top photo, you can see the cliff divers climbing up the cliff.  There are "little" flat rocks up the cliff wall.  Each diver has a spot where they stand prior to the dive.  At the top is a shrine.  (shown in the bottom photo)  The divers at the top offer a prayer at the shrine before diving into the water.  One of the divers on this day was a 13 year old girl.  I didn't get a photo of her dive but you can see her in the blue suit as she climbs the cliff..

The next three photos are of the divers.  The last one shows two diving at the same time.  It was amazing to watch these young men and women dive from the high cliffs into the small pool of water below.  I've read about them, seen pictures, and watched video but nothing compares to being there.  It was wonderful.

IXTAPA, MEXICO

Here are a few of the pictures from our cruise.  These were taken in Ixtapa.  You can see the raindrops in the water near the crocodiles.  It rained the entire day we were in the port.  My DH had scheduled an ATV ride on the beach and in the jungle but it was cancelled.  He instead joined me on the city tour which included a visit to this preserve.  The photos aren't so good because of the rain and the lighting but you can see the iguana and the croc.  I'll have more pictures to post later.  Even with the rain we enjoyed our tour of the city.

We've Been Away

We just returned from an eight day cruise to Mexico.  I'll post more pics later  We had a great time but did have one day of rain.  We didn't let it dampen our spirits and took a bus tour that day.
