"T" is for tulip

We are nearing the end of our little alphabet quiltie swap on Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  How time flies, it seems like only yesterday if was making my A, B, and C quilties.   The tulip on this quiltie is fused applique.  Letters are stamped with Stazs On ink.  I added a vintage lace from my stash and quilted with my machine.  Edges are finished with satin stitch.  I love the colors in this background fabric.  Green and Purple are my favorite colors and Springtime is my favorite time of year. 

I'm anxious for those lovely Spring Days.  We had freezing temperatures here in the desert last night.  At 10:00 am I let our little doggie outside.  He went over to his outside water bowl, stuck his head in, and then gave me this strange look.  I went over to see what his problem was -----water in his little bowl was frozen solid.  Poor little doggie had never seen ice in his bowl.  I covered my plants in the flower bed and just hope they didn't freeze.  Many have lost their landscaping this winter.  Strange here in the desert.  I know I shouldn't complain since many of you have sub-zero but I live in the desert.  It isn't supposed to freeze.

Shiny Snail Quiltie

This is my "S" quiltie for the alphabet quiltie swap on Fabric In Altered Arts 2.  Can't believe we will finish this swap later this year.  It has been so much fun.  This month our hostess, Penny, gave us the theme of "shiny".  I looked around my studio and found the shiny decorative trim.  I think someone sent it to me as part of a swap.  Then I remembered the gold snail that I had purchased at the thrift store some time ago.  I was saving the beauty for just the right art project.  S-Shiny-Snail  This was the right project.  The pink hand dyed fabric is from my stash.  I finished the edges in gold thread to add some extra shine.  The metallic thread was no problem for my Janome 11000.  Now it's time to mail the quiltie to Penny.

Matchbox 15 and a Red Quiltie

Can there only be 10 days til Christmas?  My # 15 Matchbox is from Kathy in Tennessee.  The outside of the box is elegantly decorated with tiny snowflake, Christmas sparkle, and a lovely deep red ribbon.  There is even a silver Christmas stocking on the back of the box.  Inside were tucked a great bottle cap magnet featuring a vintage Santa image, a tiny red candy, and a wonderful cloth ornament.  Thank you Kathy for the lovely box and little gifts.

As most of you know I participate in the Alphabet Quiltie Swap over on Fabric in Altered Arts 2 group.  This month the letter is "R".  Our hostess Penny selected the theme "red".  This is my Red Quiltie for December.  I decided to make a package and decorate the package with red plaid ribbon and two of my crochet flowers.  I purchased a book on making crochet flowers and experimented with some while sitting on our balcony cruising to Cabo.  It has been quite sometime since a I did much crochet work and I'm still experimenting with needle size and tension. 

"Q" quiltie

This is my "Q" quiltie for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  It is due in November but I decided to work on it this morning before beginning a quilting project.  The theme was "queen".  I didn't want to use the traditional queen theme so decided to use the Queen Mary for my quiltie.  I'm quite pleased with the results.  You can see more of my quilties by clicking the fabric postcard link on the left of my blog.

"P" is for PUMPKIN

This is my October quiltie for the Alphabet Quiltie Swap on Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  The theme for October is "pumpkins".    I had the pumpkin fabric left over from a previous project and spied this candy wrapper on the side table.  Left there by my DH who loves marshmallow and chocolate treats.  I thought it would be a perfect embellishment for my pumpkin quiltie.  Foil was easy to sew through.  I them added a pumpkin border with my Janome 11000.  Edges were finished with a satin stitch.  I think this made a cute little quiltie.

Today I will mail all my October swaps.  I completed my Fall Intrigue Basket Swap and Countdown to Christmas Matchbox Swap.  Since I will be in and out most of October I've been working to fulfill all my swap commitments.  Fall is a fun time of year.

September Quiltie - "Orange"

The theme for our alphabet quilt swap this month is orange for the letter "O".  We started months ago with "A" and now we on "O".  The swap is hosted by Penny in the Yahoo group, Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  I've received some lovely quilties from members of the group.  The size of our quilties are 6" x 6".

I collected orange fabric and embellishments during my studio organization and finally settled on this design using strips of orange fabric.  I  embellished with silk flower, button, felt butterfly, fabric patch, and vintage jewelry piece.  The edges are bound with vintage seam binding.

"N" Quiltie - NIGHT

This is my "N" quiltie for the Alphabet Swap on Fabric in Altered Art 2.  The letter for August is "N".  The fabrics are recycled from items in my studio.  I'm still working to use my "stash" whenever possible.  I used my Janome 11000 to quilt the work "night" across the sky.  I'll be mailing this little quilt to Penny, our hostess, later this week.  Penny mailed our "M" quilties this week.  I can't wait to see which beautiful quiltie I receive.  This is a fun swap.  Much thanks to Penny for coordinating it all these months.  I think we are halfway there!

Letter "L" Quiltie - Luminescent Layers

This is my quiltie for the Letter "L".  The theme was layers.  I decided to use this layered flower and blackground that I had made during an online class.  It is mounted on a layer of felt with a fabric backing.   I named the quiltie "Luminescent Layers".

 The background is painted fusible web.  I layered parts of silk flowers on top of the painted fusible web.  The next layer is angelina.  These are covered with a layer of tulle which is stitched to the background with Sulky's Holoshimmer thread.  Beads were then glued to the center of the flower.  This piece was stitched to the felt and fabric quiltie.   I think you will agree that my "Luminescent Layers" quiltie has LOTS-A-LAYERS.  It will go in the mail to Penny (our hostess) on Monday.  The group is Fabric in Altered Art 2.

"J" Quiltie - Jack of Diamonds

This is my April quiltie for Fabric in Altered Arts 2 Yahoo group.  We are doing quilties (6" x 6") with letters of the alphabet as the theme.  Penny, our hostess, selected Jack of Diamonds as the theme of the "J" quiltie.  I decided to focus on the Jack as also representing the number 11.  Since the Jack of Diamonds is red, I used red jewels instead of diamonds as embellishments.  Other embellishments are from my stash of game pieces.  The background is needle felted fibers and trims on a red background fabric.  I continue to work on my goal of "Using stuff in my studio" for my projects. 

Quiltie will go in the mail to Penny today. 

Letter G Quiltie from Penny

In the Fabric in Altered Arts 2 group we are doing a letter of the alphabet quiltie swap each month.  The letter for January was "G".  Penny is the hostess of the swap and she decided to throw in a challenge for January.  Our theme was Glitzy Garments.  I was lucky to receive Penny's lovely quiltie.  This is a fun group and the quilties are just the right size to swap.  You can see my "G" quiltie here.  I received the quiltie while we were on the cruise and am just finding time to post the photo.  Thanks Penny!

Glitzy Garment Quiltie

One of my Yahoo groups, Fabric in Altered Art 2, is having a monthly quiltie swap. The theme has been letters of the alphabet. Our hostess, Penny, decided to throw in an additional theme for the "G" quiltie - "Glitzy Garment". This is my little Glitzy Garment quiltie. The dress and accessories once belonged to Barbie. I purchased them at the Goodwill some time ago thinking I could use them in my altered art and now I have! (goal to use "stuff" in my studio in my fabric art) I added the gold bead necklace from my bead stash and the purple background is from a purple jacket I purchased at Dollar Days.

The outfit also included a pair of black boots but I couldn't figure out a way to include them on the quiltie. Maybe someday I'll do something with Barbie shoes!

"F" is for Face Quiltie

In the Fabric in Altered Arts 2 group this month's letter for our alphabet quiltie is "F". I decided to use one of my sketches from the Faces on Fabric class. I completed the class recently and had a number of sketches to choose from. My "F" includes a Face and Flowers on Fabric. Guess that qualifies as an "F" quiltie. I sized the sketch to the correct size and printed on an ink jet fabric sheet. Color was added with colored pencils. I added a spray finish to the fabric before adding backing and batting.
