"Z" end of the Alphabet Quiltie Swap

This is the end of the Alphabet Quiltie Swap on Fabric in Altered Arts 2 Yahoo Group.  Penny has been an excellent hostess.  She kept us organized and supplied a few themed letters along the way.  Thank you Penny.

This quiltie is made from a panel I purchased a few years ago.  I embellished it with sparkling leaves, black beads, and a button cover.  I did a little hand quilting around the zebra and the tree trunk.  It will go in the mail this week to Penny.

"Q" quiltie

This is my "Q" quiltie for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  It is due in November but I decided to work on it this morning before beginning a quilting project.  The theme was "queen".  I didn't want to use the traditional queen theme so decided to use the Queen Mary for my quiltie.  I'm quite pleased with the results.  You can see more of my quilties by clicking the fabric postcard link on the left of my blog.

Exciting News

I recently received proofs for two of my articles for the upcoming issue of Altered Couture magazine. It is amazing the great things they can do to make my altered clothing look sooooo good. Both items will be technique articles. Each will have a two page spread. They both look great. I can't share the photos with you. You'll have to buy the magazine in November but I can tell you that one involves a child's overall and a vintage apron. The other machine needle felting. I can hardly wait until the magazine arrives. We receive a complimentary copy of the magazine just prior to it's release in bookstores.

I also have an item in the November/December Belle Armoire magazine. It's so much fun to see your works in print. I only sent in one item for the Spring issue of Altered Couture. Things have a little crazy this summer. I do have some ideas for the Summer issue due in December.

"C" is for Cowgirl Quiltie

This is my quiltie for the August swap on Fabrics in Altered Arts 2. We are doing an alphabet quiltie swap with a new letter each month. This month's letter is "C". I had a hard time deciding what "C" theme to use and finally decided to do Cowgirl. I used two different western print fabrics and added metal and leather embellishments. I decided to finish the edges of the quiltie with pinking shears.

Isn't this a great sketch. It's from Easy Ways to Pretty Frocks by Clark's O.N.T. Threads Copyright 1929. I purchased this booklet at a lovely little antique store in KY. It's full of great sketches.

My sister and I are collecting images for a altered fabric book that we plan to begin in a few weeks. We've made fabric books in the past and they have been wonderful. This one will have a sewing theme. We will use vintage pattern envelopes, vintage fabric, and vintage sewing notions. I thought we might be able to use some of these images. We have a great photo of our grandmother with a hair style similar to this one.

I'll keep you posted on the progress of our altered fabric book. I'm currently scanning vintage pattern envelopes and other vintage ephemera. Next up is to select family photos and scan them. Our goal is to have a disk of images that we can print onto ink jet printable fabric.

Skirt is Back from Altered Couture Magazine

My Going Green Skirt arrived in the mail yesterday from Altered Couture just in time to display at Bernina Southwest. I will be teaching a class on how-to make a skirt just like the one feathered in the fall issue of Altered Couture magazine. The class is called "Glitzy Jean Skirt" and is offered as a two session class in October at Bernina Southwest.
