Easter Fabric Postcard

I made three of these little Easter Fabric Postcards for my friends.  I had wanted to try redwork embroidery with my Janome 11000.  This was a perfect opportunity to experiment.  The design is from Martha Pullen.  I purchased it a number of years ago when I attended an embroidery conference.  She was one of the guest presenters.  I just love to listen to her speak.  She suggested that we use # 30 thread.  It is thicker than regular embroidery thread.  I didn't have any so I just used my regular thread.  I'm hoping to get to the fabric store next week and I'll purchase some of the thicker thread.  I would like to do a complete quilt with redwork.

I plan to make one more postcard tomorrow and I plan to use a bright pink thread.  I think it will work for an Easter card. 

I'm finding it difficult to find to time to blog.  Things are very busy here at home with DH's health issues and picking up my Grand Girls from school each day.  I do try to read as many blogs as possible.  I'm thinking it may be time to take a blog break and catch my breath.

November Fabric Postcard

I decided to join a Fabric Postcard Swap for November.  This is my postcard for Corinne.  I cut the calendar and the turkey images from an old linen calendar.  The theme of the calendar was "Calories".  I thought the turkey was the perfect addition to the November postcard.

Norma at Fabric in Altered Arts 2 Yahoo group is the hostess of this swap.   I haven't participated in a trade in some time.  I took a break but plan to gradually get back into the swapping mode.

Valentine Fabric Postcard

This month on Fabric in Altered Arts 2 we had a fabric postcard swap with a Valentine theme.  This is the postcard I made for Amy.  The photo doesn't show the shimmer and glitter on the organdy that is used as a topper for the postcard.  The hearts and letters were made on my Janome 11000 embroidery machine.  I received a lovely fabric postcard from Amy this week.  I'l  post the photo later.  This little group is one of my favorite Yahoo groups.

Today I will be machine quilting the 1930s reproduction fabric quilt.  Spent last night and this am basting the top to the batting and backing.  I'm all set up at the machine and it's time to quilt.

Fourth of July Fabric Postcard

This is a fabric postcard that I made for a friend.  It was very simple to make.  The base is Peltex.  I printed the address and a quote from President Eisenhour on the reverse side.   I found the image on the web.  The site has a number of vintage postcards for the Fourth of July.  The star fabric is from my stash.  I think it was left over from a flag quilt I made for my son.  I used my Janome 11000 to do the satin stitching.  I think it does the best job of all three of my machines when it comes to the satin stitch. 

Our family is looking forward to a wonderful Fourth of July.  We will be attending events in downtown Mesa tomorrow evening, fireworks after the baseball game on Saturday evening, and lunch after church with the granddaughters on the 4th.  Back to the ballpark to see the Chicago Cubs play on Monday afternoon.  Busy next four days.

June Fabric Postcard

This is my June Fabric Postcard for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  We don't have a theme this month.  Since I had this fabric left over from the jelly roll bag, I decided to use it for the postcard.  I made the flower by twisting one of the jelly roll strips and sewing along the edge with the hemming stitch on my machine.  I had seen a flower made this way but it was glued to a felt circle .  I decided that I would try stitching the flower to my quilted background.  It worked and I plan to try some on other projects.

I wasn't in the studio on Wed and Thursday.  I am providing transportation for the GDs to attend summer camp and classes.  The five year even has homework for her Reading Readiness class with ASU.  But it's fun and she likes it.  The seven year old is in theater camp and loves it.  She told me the other day that she is going to be an Actor.  They play "Director May I" instead of "Mother May I".  She told her little sister that a director was the one that gave instructions to the actors.   She is looking forward to turning eight.  Then she can audition for the Children's Theater plays.  I'm off to a quilt show this weekend.  Hope to post pictures next week.

Thank You Fabric Postcard

This is a Fabric Postcard that I made for my friend.  We had an early birthday breakfast last week and I received a lovely candle and gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.  I decided to make a Thank You Fabric Postcard.  The heart is paper-pieces from fabric I received from Wanda of  A Frayed of Fibers.  I won a give-a-way on her blog last year.  After sewing the paper-pieced heart, I attached it to PelTex, added a backing fabric, and stamped THANK YOU  with  StazOn ink.  The edges were finished with a satin stitch in variegated thread and last I added a tiny bow. 

Fun way to say Thank You to a special friend.  It will be mailed tomorrow.

Fabric Postcard

This is my February Fabric Postcard for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  The fabric is leftovers from the 9 Patch Pizzaz quilt that I am currently quilting.  I hope to finish the quilting today.  I took a break for the cruise and adopting a rescue dog.  You can read about these events in previous posts.

The embellishment is a piece of costume jewelry that I picked up at the thrift store years ago.  The colors were perfect for the fabrics from the 9 Patch Pizzaz.  The edges are finished with a couched novelty yarn from my stash.  I continue to work on my goals of recycling, repurposing, and using things in my stash.  I had fun revisiting my stash and seeing items from the past in a new light.  Something old can indeed become something new.

The postcard will go in the mail tomorrow to Norma in her new home in Florida.  Hope she likes it.

January Fabric Postcard

This is my January postcard for the Postcard Swap on Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  This month I mail to Pam in Maine.  Norma, our hostesss, is moving from Arizona to Florida and wasn't able to participate this month.  Norma is very organized and even in the middle of her move she took time to assign partners.  However, we only had two participants this month (Pam and Pam). 

This postcard is made from a sample I felted when I was experimenting with my Huskystar ER 10.  Bits of fabric and fibers were felted onto a black felt background.  I think it made a lovely fabric postcard and helped me achieve my goal of using "stuff" in my studio.  Also a recycling project by using fabric scraps.  Hope Pam likes it.

Eat Beef Fabric Postcard

This is my November postcard for Fabric in Altered Arts 2. My partner this month is Norma. I used an image of a vintage Thanksgiving card. It's difficult to read the message but it says "I'm the popular birdie. All right! All right!" I decided to stamp the words EAT BEEF along the side of the card. Black snaps were used as the final embellishment. Hope Norma enjoys the card.

October Fabric Postcard

This is my October postcard for Fabric in Altered Art II group. A very simple fabric postcard with fused applique cut from Halloween print. Embellished with Diamond Dust and Sharpie Marker. Edges were pinked. The postcard will be mailed to Maine today.

Day of the Dead Fabric Postcard

This fabric postcard is for a trade on Fiber Art Traders. It's a Day of the Dead postcard trade. I found this lovely fabric in my stash. Don't know where I got it but it says that it is a Folk Art Pattern from New Mexico. Very appropriate for a Mexican holiday card. I edged the skull with glitter glue and then added glitter to the red flower. Last I added the yellow flower and zigzag stitched the edge to a cardstock back.

September Fabric Postcard

This is my fabric postcard for September in the Fabric in Altered Arts 2 group. I mail to my friend Norma this month. Hope she likes this little card. The back reads "Wishing you a wonderful fall filled with bright colors and sunshine."
I have a new fabric postcard holder. I found it at the thrift store recently. It is a pink wooden photo holder but it works perfectly for my fabric postcard collection and it's pink. My studio is pink and green. I love the two colors. They are so cheerful and make me feel happy when I enter my studio.

August Postcard from Kathie

This is my August fabric postcard from Kathie. Isn't the fabric great! Love the bathing beauties. I really enjoy receiving these little fabric postcards each month. July Postcard from Norma

I've been away from my blog for most of the week. Busy week with many activities. Great to see friends and family. I realized that I had not posted the wonderful card I received from Norma. Norma is a very creative member of the Fabrics in Altered Arts Yahoo Group. I love getting her work. She is also the fabric postcard swap hostess. Isn't the card lovely?

August Fabric Postcard

This is my August Fabric Postcard for Fabric in Altered Arts 2. I used a blue oriental fabric and embellished with Stickles, gold iron-on trim, and an old button cover. I'm quite pleased with this little fabric postcard with an oriental flair. It will go in the mail tomorrow.

July Fabric Postcard

This is the postcard I made today for the July postcard swap on Fabric in Altered Arts 2. The fabric was left over from a wallhanging kit I purchased from Fat Quarter Shop. The fabric is called Bistro. The vintage image is a free image from Dover. The image was printed on an Ink Jet Fabric Sheet and fused to the front of the postcard. The cups were fussy cut from one of the Bistro fabricsand fused.

Fabric Postcard

This is a fabric postcard that I completed while watching America's Next Top Model this evening. I have decided to try and use things that I have in my studio for my new swaps. This is my postcard for May on Fabric in Altered Arts 2. The group decided to have a postcard swap each month but not have a theme. So I decided to use more of the sample class fabric (see fabric ATCs below). The image is from Vintage Workshop. Fibers are a gift from a Yahoo group friend. I love the finished postcard.
