Another Family in Fabric Page

This is my second page for my Family in Fabric book.  This page shown my Grandma.  She always wore button front dresses.  I'm showing two photos of her with a button front dress.  They aren't exactly like the pattern but very similar.  She also always had a belt as does this pattern.  The vintage Butterick pattern is from the 1940's and so are these pictures of Grandma.  The other pattern envelope is one for a pattern she ordered  from the newspaper.  The address is in her handwriting.  My aunt gave me this envelope when I told her I was making the fabric book.

The fabric is from a vintage brown and white polka dot apron.  If you look closely in the bottom left you can see the edge of the pocket with lace edging.  The laces and vintage buttons are from my stash.  I have a box of vintage jewelry and a page dedicated to my Grandma wouldn't be complete unless it had a necklace.  You can see her wearing one in the photo with my grandpa.

I will bind the edges of the page but haven't yet figured out how I will bind them together.  For now I'm just turning under the edge where the book binding will be.   You can see my first page here.

Vintage Christmas Apron

Matilda is ready for Christmas entertaining. Isn't she a lucky lady (mannequin) to be wearing this lovely apron! I found this wonderful vintage apron at Goodwill. I just love it. I think it must have been a kit. Kit probably included the netting, felt, ribbon, rickrack, beads and sequins. I hope my photos show the detail of the bell embellishments. It's obvious that someone spent hours and hours attaching sequins with beads. There is also a piece of the silver rickrack on each bell.

I always wonder about the history of things I find at thrift stores. Do you think someone actually wore this lovely little apron? Did someone spend all those hours making it as a gift? Did the recipient appreciated the hours it took to make it? How did it end up at Goodwill with a 99 cent price tag?

Recipe Holder

I'm making three of these recipe holders. They will be gifts for friends. I'm putting together a package for three friends with a kitchen theme. I've already made aprons and now I'm finishing up these recipe holders. The clipboards are from the office supply store. I covered the front of the clipboard with scrapbooking paper and the back with pages from old recipe book. I added images from old apron pattern envelopes and stamped the word RECIPE. The entire clipboard is sealed with a multipurpose sealer and then ribbons were added. I will include a recipe enclosed in a plastic holder.

Hope my friends enjoy their recipe holders. I took my inspiration from Jane's Apron. She makes clipboards with the entire pattern envelop but I decided to just use a copy of the apron image and scrapbook paper. Check out her blog, she does some great things with vintage patterns and other vintage items.

Another "Apron All"

A week or so ago, I posted about an idea I had for recycled/altered overalls for children. I did a sample one and posted the picture here. I have since added vintage rick rack on the apron edge and removed the buckles from the straps. I made buttonholes and sewed on vintage green buttons. I will be listing it on etsy.

The "Apron All" above was made from a recycled overall and a vintage children's apron. I removed the pocket from the apron and sewed it to the top of the overall. I then cut the apron to a shorter length and gathered to a new waistband cut from the left over skirt. I shortened the ties and attached to the waistband. On this garment, I left the buckles as they were. This item will also be listed on etsy.
