I've been away so long

I think it's time to rejoin my friends in blogland.  Many things have happened since I last posted.  -vacations, home remodels, son's family new home, visit with college friends, Antique Roadshow, Smokey Mountains, suite at D-back game, and quilts and much more.

I'm hoping to share some of the highlights with you in the coming weeks.  Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

A pattern from my vintage collection.  Reminds me of summers long ago.

Ready, Set, Sew

I found this vintage Super Simple pattern at the local thrift store for 25 cents.  It is the perfect pattern for my granddaughters skirt she is sewing this week on "Sew Day".  I made the sample skirt below from my stash to make sure the pattern fit.  It did!!
She selected the fabric below at JoAnns for her skirt.  The fabric has a texture and cute design.  I'm not sure how much of the skirt she will actually sew.  I will have the pieces cut and ready for straight seam sewing.

The second granddaughter has chosen to make p.j. bottoms from flannel.  Here is the sample I made from my stash to check for fit.  It also was a perfect fit.
Below is the simple purple dot flannel that she chose at JoAnns.

They are excited for "Sew Day" tomorrow.  I'm hoping they feel the same way when we finish their garments.

Another Family in Fabric Page

This is my second page for my Family in Fabric book.  This page shown my Grandma.  She always wore button front dresses.  I'm showing two photos of her with a button front dress.  They aren't exactly like the pattern but very similar.  She also always had a belt as does this pattern.  The vintage Butterick pattern is from the 1940's and so are these pictures of Grandma.  The other pattern envelope is one for a pattern she ordered  from the newspaper.  The address is in her handwriting.  My aunt gave me this envelope when I told her I was making the fabric book.

The fabric is from a vintage brown and white polka dot apron.  If you look closely in the bottom left you can see the edge of the pocket with lace edging.  The laces and vintage buttons are from my stash.  I have a box of vintage jewelry and a page dedicated to my Grandma wouldn't be complete unless it had a necklace.  You can see her wearing one in the photo with my grandpa.

I will bind the edges of the page but haven't yet figured out how I will bind them together.  For now I'm just turning under the edge where the book binding will be.   You can see my first page here.

BINGO Card Swap

I finally decided on a Bingo Card for the swap at Mystic Paper. This is the card that I decided to make for the swap. I had posted two possible layouts earlier in my blog but I wasn't pleased with either. The images on this card are from a vintage pattern envelop. I added a swatch of red and white striped fabric and three buttons from my button box to each card. I am very pleased with the results. These cards reflect my love of fabric, vintage, and sewing. I wasn't able to deliver the cards yesterday but will drop them off on the way to the Diamondback Game today since Mystic Paper is now open Sunday afternoons for our "shopping pleasure".

Oh yes, our Diamondbacks are in a huge slump and looks like they won't make it to the playoffs after leading their division for most of the season. Karma visited them last evening when a recently traded player, Micah Owings hit a double to help Cincinnati win the game in the 10th. I think the management should beware of that "Karma" thing!!!!!!!
