SMOCKINGLY PINK

HAPPY PINK SATURDAY

Today I'm sharing a "Smocking Pink" Post.

I found this lovely little pink gingham apron at a local thrift store.  The waistband of the apron has been smocked.  Instead of a grid of dots, the maker used the squares of the gingham as her smocking guide.

When the waistband was smocked, larger pink squares were created.  Isn't this a beautiful smocked waistband?  Smocking is defined as a method of gathering fabric and you can see the gathering in this photo.
I found it interesting that the pocket on this apron was placed on the outer edge.  Not sure it is practical to have it there.  I love the hemline of the apron.

More vintage smocking
I found these vintage patterns for smocked pillow covers.  The McCall's pattern is dated 1962 and the Simplicity 1963.  I've never attempted smocking but I may try making one of these beauties one day.

So pretty! I had a couple of smocked dresses as a girl, and those still remain in my memory! I also saved an adorable little vintage floral smocked dress that my daughter wore as a baby 26 years ago...so charming!

Hi Pam, I've always wanted to try smocking, and never have. it seems difficult to me just by looking at it! I love the apron, though I agree, the pocket is a little strangely placed! Happy PS! Suzie

Hi Pam,

80's are our night time temps and feel so much better than the 100 something we are still having every day. Most evenings seem to bring humidity and that's not so comfortable.

What a sweet pink apron. Have fun attempting smocking. I still want to try embroidery as I haven't done any since I was about 12. So much I want to make and try and do but never enough time for it all.

I love your Fall vignette on the dining table. Those leaves that you made are incredible! You always create the most beautiful crafts. Love seeing all that you are up to.

Hope you are having an extra special Saturday. Best wishes, Tammy

Cute apron, but what really caught my eye was the round pillow on the pattern. When I was a little girl, I had a hot pink velvet one on my bed that my Grandma made for me. Wish I still had it!

Oh my gosh. I love it. That apron is so adorable. My daughter had some precious little smocked dresses when she was a baby. I wanted to keep them all but only chose a few to pack away. I wished I had the patience to smock (and the talent). I would have been thrilled to have found that apron. Thank you for sharing and visiting. happy PS.

Thanks for visiting on Pink Saturday. It's so nice to meet you.

Oh, that apron is lovely. Of course, any apron in pink is bound to be lovely...but I DO love the smocking. I LOVE wearing an apron. Although I mostly wear full aprons, because they are more practical for me, I have a simply stunning half apron that I won in a giveaway a few months ago.

Have a lovely day,
Patti
