Last Pages from Halloween Book

I'm back to posting some of my projects.  I'm hoping to show you some of the things I've been doing for the past two weeks when I had no computer.  (Well actually I did use the laptop from the motorhome to check emails but not much else)

Here are the last two pages of my Halloween Altered Book.  I continued to use vintage witch images and pictures of the two GDs.  I found the little trick or treat bags at the thrift store some time ago.  I knew I would use them in my altered art.  The bags worked perfectly on these two pages.  I also used some twisted copper wire to embellish the pages.  Gold Stickles was applied to the pumpkin's face.  Button is from WalMart.  This was a fun book.  Can't wait to show you the fun book I made today in a class at Paper Vineyard in Chandler.

More Pages from My Halloween Altered Book

These two pages are of my oldest GD.  She was 1 in the top photo and 2 in the bottom.  These were before she had a little sister with which to share Halloween.  The top picture shows her dressed as a Arizona Diamondback cheerleader.  I remember the evening that her Daddy bought the little outfit in the team shop at the ballpark.

I love the little princess dress in  the bottom photo.  She was two and so cute in her pink dress with the crown.  She is now in second grade and will celebrate her 8th birthday this month.  My how time flies.

As with the other pages, I embellished with vintage Halloween Witch postcards.  I added glitter glue to the postcards,  the background stars, and the crown.  Other embellishments included three dimensional pumpkins and black and white ribbon.  I also added some black ball fringe along the bottom edge.

As you can see I had fun with these pages.  I'll post more later this week.

Another Family in Fabric Page

I finished this Family in Fabric yesterday.  The photo was taken on Easter 1970.  I was home for the weekend from my very first teaching job in Northern AZ.  I made my suit from the fabric above.  The skirt was plaid and the jacket was a matching solid yellow.  My sister made her dress from the pattern above and my Mom made my little sister's dress.

My sister still had her pattern and let me borrow it.  A few month's ago my DH was organizing his shop out back and came in with a few pieces of fabric.  He said they had been in my Dad' camper which we sold a few years ago.  The pile of fabric included some old curtains, a sheet, and my fabric.  Don't know why my Dad had put them in his camper but I'm glad to have the actual fabric to use on my Family in Fabric page.

This is my fifth completed page.  Links to the other pages are here, here, here, and here.

"Mammy" Family in Fabric

Now that I am home and in my studio, it is time to return to creating my Family in Fabric book.  This is a photo of my great-grandmother Ella Stearman.  I never met her but my Mother called her "Mammy".  The background fabric is a feedsack.  When you look closely at Mammy's dress you can see that it could have been made from a feed sack.  The dress is so simple.  Mammy probably didn't have a pattern.  She could have used these instructions from "Easy Ways to Pretty Frocks" by Clark's O.N.T. Threads dated 1929.
The quilt square in the background was hand stitched by Manny in the 1930's or 40's.

Family in Fabric Cousins

This is my third Family in Fabric page.  This is a photo of my oldest cousins, Bobby and Joyce.  The picture had the date of May 11, 1944 written on the back by my Aunt Ruby.  I just love their little outfits.  I had this vintage pattern that is very similar to their outfits.  The pattern is dated 1943.  The little applique pattern was still in the pattern envelope.  I decided to do tailor tacks through the holes (just like my Aunt Ruby would have done when making the pattern).  The old patterns had no writing on the tissue pattern pieces.  To make the patterns, the seamstress would use tailor's tacks.   The blue background fabric is from a vintage apron and I added the middy braid.

Embellishments on this page include vintage Oh Baby pearl buttons, hooks and eyes that had a price tag of 15 cents, a vintage button, safety pins, and a red felt applique bunny.  I also included a transparency of part of the instruction sheet.  These are such fun.  I will be binding the edges with seam binding when I have more pages completed.

Easter Album Part 2

These are the next four pages in my Easter Album.  The top two are photos are my two lovely granddaughters in their Easter dresses.  The photos were taken last Easter.  I decided to use vintage Easter images for the next two pages.  I'll be adding some family photos to the last few pages.  This has been a fun project and it allows me to use my stash of papers and embellishments.  Thanks to Two Crazy Crafters for the inspiration for this project.

Easter Album

I've been away from blogland for over a week.  Illness in the family and a quick "girl's trip" kept me away.  I'm back with some photos of an Easter album that I'm working on.  This is the title page and the first two pages of the album book.  My inspiration was a Valentine Album by Twyla and Lindsey on the Two Crazy Crafters.  If you haven't visited their blog, you are in for a real treat.  Their work is wonderful.

The Crazy Crafters album was made from paper bags.  I'm using a recycled children's book.  I cut the pages from the book and sanded them before glueing on the background paper.  I plan to use scrapbook papers in my stash and other embellishments from the studio.  (My goal for the year)  These two pages include Easter photos of our sons, Paul and John.  I'm planning to use the granddaughter's photos on the next pages.
