Vintage Fabric Pillows

I found this vintage fabric stashed on a shelf while putting away Christmas.  I had completely forgotten about this wonderful fabric.  I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it.  Throw pillows for the love seat.  It has the perfect colors.

Looks great with the walnut Pottery Barn canvas slip covers.  I love those vibrant colors.  They are a perfect compliment to the dining area leather chairs.

I already had this feed sack table runner on the table.  Isn't that pear great.  I found it at Home Goods.  I won the feed sacks in a blog give away a few years ago.  I made them into this table runner.  It is perfect for the dining room table and it too compliments the leather dining chairs.

Friendship - A Swap for all Seasons

 I recently participated in the October Swap on a Swap for All Seasons.  The theme of the swap was Friendship.  You can check out the Swap by clicking on the Icon on the left of my blog.

The color for the month was pink.  We were to make a card and a tag.  Lastly we were to include something pink from our stash. My card is shown above.  I used scrapbook paper, cardstock, stamps, and a button.

My tag is shown above.  I used my new Silhouette to make the tag.  I'm so impressed with the machine.  I printed the tag on my printer and then cut out the shape on the Silhouette.  The tag features a piece of vintage fabric from a 1930's quilt top, vintage buttons, trim and an image cut from a notecard.

Here are the pink items from my stash.  Instructions said to include "One Pink" item.  Of course, I couldn't stop with just one.  The bias tape, rick rack, and seam binding are vintage.  All items are on their way to my partner in North Carolina.

Vintage Fabric Ruffle Tree

Yesterday, I completed this ruffle Christmas tree from my vintage fabric.  I found a tutorial for making these little trees.  I bought the styrofoam base at JoAnns.  I tore my fabric along the selvage and did the ruffle stitching on the selvage.  I used my Janome11000 and my new ruffler foot.  I purchased the foot last weekend during the Janome demo days at a local sewing machine store.  The top of the tree is a drawer pull painted with silver paint and the base of the tree is a blue candle stick.  I purchased the candle stick last year at the thrift store. 

Completing the little table top display is a glass tree and little silver tray.  They are recent thrift store purchases.  The aluminum tree is from Walmart.  A silver footed dish from the thrift store serves as the tree base.  I'm really liking the blue theme.

I'm so excited, I found the perfect white tree on Saturday.  I had searched at a number of stores recently but couldn't find the perfect tree.  Saturday I found it.  It's in the box waiting to be opened. 

Vintage Chic Fabric

I found 4 yards of this great vintage fabric at the thrift store today.  It still had the price tag attached from Penney's.  4 - 1.00  Didn't have a date but can you imagine getting 4 yards of fabric for One Dollar at Penney's!  I'm thinking 60s or 70s.  It's cotton and I've already washed it.  It needs pressing but looks great.  I love the vintage colors.  Even though it's blue, it has a Christmas feel.  The design reminds me of abstract pine cones and pine needles.  Can you see it too?

I'm hoping to decorate for Christmas with blue and white in my newly painted light blue living/dining room.  Maybe I'll make Christmas stockings from this fabric with some vintage lace or vintage hankies around the top.

Another Family in Fabric Page

This is my second page for my Family in Fabric book.  This page shown my Grandma.  She always wore button front dresses.  I'm showing two photos of her with a button front dress.  They aren't exactly like the pattern but very similar.  She also always had a belt as does this pattern.  The vintage Butterick pattern is from the 1940's and so are these pictures of Grandma.  The other pattern envelope is one for a pattern she ordered  from the newspaper.  The address is in her handwriting.  My aunt gave me this envelope when I told her I was making the fabric book.

The fabric is from a vintage brown and white polka dot apron.  If you look closely in the bottom left you can see the edge of the pocket with lace edging.  The laces and vintage buttons are from my stash.  I have a box of vintage jewelry and a page dedicated to my Grandma wouldn't be complete unless it had a necklace.  You can see her wearing one in the photo with my grandpa.

I will bind the edges of the page but haven't yet figured out how I will bind them together.  For now I'm just turning under the edge where the book binding will be.   You can see my first page here.

Goodies in the Mail

This week I received some wonderful goodies in the mail from swaps on Fabric in Altered Arts. The women in this group are so creative. It's so much fun to open the packages when they arrive. The apron was made by Kathie, my partner in the Red, White, and Blue Apron Swap. See the apron I made for Kathie here. The aprons were designed to be worn on July 4th. This one is just lovely. The apron is completely lined. The front pocket is made from patchwork and the button brooch is made from vintage buttons sewn on to a piece of thick interfacing (like Peltex). I love the apron and will wear it with pride on July 4th.

The tea towels were made by Cathy and Pamela. Aren't they wonderful. Pamela's is made completely of vintage fabric. Cathy's coffee towel is made from a purchased towel and decorated with coffee fabric and trims. They are too lovely to use. I will probably just display them somewhere in my vintage kitchen.
