New Baby Quilt

I recently completed this quilt.  The inspiration was the fabric below.

 

I decided to use some orange fabric my sister had given me for the quilt background.  I used my Go to cut tumbler shaped pieces.  I then added the frog.  It is an embroidery design from Anita Goodesigns. 

 

 

Next I cut out green plants following the design on the fabric.  I used green dot ribbon for the stems. 

 

 I added the name with my Janome 15000 embroidery machine.  Last I added the border and black rick rack.  I'm pleased with the results.  It is bright and colorful for baby Zain.

 

 

 

Baby Quilt

 While we were in Kentucky my hubby asked if I could make a baby quilt for him to give as a gift.  He volunteers each week at an eye clinic in Mesa and one of the doctors and his new wife are expecting a baby boy.  I have a friend in Kentucky that runs an online fabric shop.  I quickly selected the fabric and made arrangements to meet her in town to pick up the fabric.  I finished the top while we were in Kentucky.

I quilted and bound the quilt last week.  You can see some of the details below. 

Aren't those animals so cute.  Love that owl with the blue and green eyes!

 

I used my Janome 15000 AciFil Quilt program to add these little curls in the center of each green diamond.  They are difficult to see in the photo.

I find it interesting that baby colors are no longer pastels or just blue, pink, and yellow.  A friend recently painted her nursery bold gray, green, and blue and it looks lovely.

Jelly roll quilt for Baby

This is a Jelly Roll Quilt that I made this summer for a friend's granddaughter.  The baby's nursery was decorated in light earthy tones.  I found this jelly roll and made one of the Jelly Roll 1600 quilts.  You can read about my first jelly roll 1600 quilt here. 

 

Since the quilt was for a baby, I used flannel as the backing.  The new mother loved the quilt and has it proudly displayed in her home. 

 

 

Cowboy Baby Quilt

I finished this quilt recently.  The border and center square feature cowboy themed print.  The squares in this quilt are made of charms from a charm swap I participated in this spring.  Once we swapped charms, then we had a quilt challenge to use the fabric in a quilt.  The quilt had to feature one square made from your fabric and follow a pattern provided.  The block represented your state.  I made my own design for the quilt and am pleased with the resulting cowboy quilt.

 I altered my feature square slightly but it does feature my five fabrics from the swap.  The quilt was a gift for the new baby boy across the street.  The cowboy theme seemed appropriate as the five year older brother told me his baby bother's name was "gunslinger".  Actually his name is Sterling.

Quilt is finished

 

The quilt is finished.  It measures 40" x 40".  The backing is flannel and the binding is pink polka dot fabric.  (Both from my stash)  The quilt looks great hanging on my design wall but guess I'll have to part with it soon as the new baby is due in March.

A New Quilting Project

This is my current quilting project.  It is a baby quilt for a new grandniece.  The embroidery designs are Anita Goodesign Oodles of Doodles.  The fabric is 30s reproduction fabric and they are stippled using Anita Goodesign Foundations embroidery.  In keeping with my word for 2013 "frugal", all the fabric is from my stash.

I wanted to use the same color threads through the quilt so I selected a variety of thread colors prior to beginning the project.  I used my fabrics as a starting point for thread color.  All threads were in my thread stash.

 

When the quilt top is finished I will use a pink flannel backing and pink polka dot binding from my stash.  I'm hoping to use up much of my fabric stash this year.  It was a goal last year but it seems that I added more fabric than I used.  I'm hoping to do better this year.

Another Baby Quilt on the design wall

The young couple living across the street are expecting a little girl the end of the month.  I decided it's about time I made the new little one a quilt.  I searched through patterns but eventually decided on this simple block.  I had a number of 2 1/2" strips left over from the last baby quilt and decided to start there.

Since I'm working to reduce my stash, I selected other similar fabrics and used my Accuquilt GO cutter to cut 2 1/2" strips.  I sewed three strips together and cut into squares.  I then placed then on the design wall to determine a pleasing placement.  Here you see the squares on the design wall.

 I searched through my fabric stash and found the two fabrics above.  I will use the Pooh fabric as a border and the swirls for the backing.  I'm thinking it will make a cute baby girl quilt. 

Dressed to the Nines Quilt

I purchased this Dressed to the Nines pattern a few years ago at a quilt show here in Mesa.  This spring I decided to make a quilt for a college friends granddaughter.  I remembered this cute little quilt of dresses and located the pattern in the pattern box.  I used fabric from my stash and also purchased a few pieces at the Cabbage Rose Quilt Shop.  The cute little shop recently opened here in Mesa and she has the most beautiful fabric.  Lots of pretty florals. 

I appliqued the dresses to the white squares and then attached the sashing.  The dresses are machine appliqued and when machine quilting I stitched around each dress.  The quilt is boxed and ready to go to the post office tomorrow.  I emailed my friend last week and the parents aren't telling the name until she gets here.  So for now the quilt is for "Baby Girl". 

The neighbor across the street is expecting a girl late this summer so I'll be working on another little girl quilt soon.  Haven't selected a pattern for that one yet.  I'd like to continue using my stash if possible.

I haven't blogged much lately.  It's summer and the granddaughters are visiting each week.  I love having them here but I don't have much computer time.  This week they will be attending a gifted camp at the local community college.  I provide breakfast and taxi services as well as before and after time.  It is so much fun to have them here in the summer.  Now that they are both in school, I miss having time with them each week during the school year.
