November Fabric Postcard

I decided to join a Fabric Postcard Swap for November.  This is my postcard for Corinne.  I cut the calendar and the turkey images from an old linen calendar.  The theme of the calendar was "Calories".  I thought the turkey was the perfect addition to the November postcard.

Norma at Fabric in Altered Arts 2 Yahoo group is the hostess of this swap.   I haven't participated in a trade in some time.  I took a break but plan to gradually get back into the swapping mode.

"Q" quiltie

This is my "Q" quiltie for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  It is due in November but I decided to work on it this morning before beginning a quilting project.  The theme was "queen".  I didn't want to use the traditional queen theme so decided to use the Queen Mary for my quiltie.  I'm quite pleased with the results.  You can see more of my quilties by clicking the fabric postcard link on the left of my blog.

"P" is for PUMPKIN

This is my October quiltie for the Alphabet Quiltie Swap on Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  The theme for October is "pumpkins".    I had the pumpkin fabric left over from a previous project and spied this candy wrapper on the side table.  Left there by my DH who loves marshmallow and chocolate treats.  I thought it would be a perfect embellishment for my pumpkin quiltie.  Foil was easy to sew through.  I them added a pumpkin border with my Janome 11000.  Edges were finished with a satin stitch.  I think this made a cute little quiltie.

Today I will mail all my October swaps.  I completed my Fall Intrigue Basket Swap and Countdown to Christmas Matchbox Swap.  Since I will be in and out most of October I've been working to fulfill all my swap commitments.  Fall is a fun time of year.

"N" Quiltie - NIGHT

This is my "N" quiltie for the Alphabet Swap on Fabric in Altered Art 2.  The letter for August is "N".  The fabrics are recycled from items in my studio.  I'm still working to use my "stash" whenever possible.  I used my Janome 11000 to quilt the work "night" across the sky.  I'll be mailing this little quilt to Penny, our hostess, later this week.  Penny mailed our "M" quilties this week.  I can't wait to see which beautiful quiltie I receive.  This is a fun swap.  Much thanks to Penny for coordinating it all these months.  I think we are halfway there!

July quiltie M is for Monkey

This is my July quiltie for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  We are doing quilties for each letter of the alphabet and July is "M".  I purchased a fat quarter of each of these fabrics at a little quilt store in Danville, Ky last fall.  A few weeks ago I made a small tote from the fabric and decided the leftovers were perfect for a Monkey quiltie.  I added the selvage with the fabric name "Monkey'n Round".  I embellished the quiltie with a card from a box of child's alphabet cards.  Luckily the M was for monkey.  Quiltie will go in the mail next week.

Letter "L" Quiltie - Luminescent Layers

This is my quiltie for the Letter "L".  The theme was layers.  I decided to use this layered flower and blackground that I had made during an online class.  It is mounted on a layer of felt with a fabric backing.   I named the quiltie "Luminescent Layers".

The background is painted fusible web.  I layered parts of silk flowers on top of the painted fusible web.  The next layer is angelina.  These are covered with a layer of tulle which is stitched to the background with Sulky's Holoshimmer thread.  Beads were then glued to the center of the flower.  This piece was stitched to the felt and fabric quiltie.   I think you will agree that my "Luminescent Layers" quiltie has LOTS-A-LAYERS.  It will go in the mail to Penny (our hostess) on Monday.  The group is Fabric in Altered Art 2.

Go Fly a Kite

In the Yahoo group Fabric in Altered Arts 2 we continue to do Alphabet Quilties.  The letter for May is "K".  This is my "K" quiltie.  I continue to work with items from my stash but I did buy the little hand button.  I found the button at a WalMart in Missouri.  It was perfect for the quiltie.

It's good to be back in my studio after a 6 week vacation to our home in Kentucky.  Arizona is warmer but still below 100.  Weather today is lovely.  Nothing like seeing the granddaughters after 6 weeks.  We had a great dinner with the family at one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants last evening.

Fabric Postcard

This is my February Fabric Postcard for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  The fabric is leftovers from the 9 Patch Pizzaz quilt that I am currently quilting.  I hope to finish the quilting today.  I took a break for the cruise and adopting a rescue dog.  You can read about these events in previous posts.

The embellishment is a piece of costume jewelry that I picked up at the thrift store years ago.  The colors were perfect for the fabrics from the 9 Patch Pizzaz.  The edges are finished with a couched novelty yarn from my stash.  I continue to work on my goals of recycling, repurposing, and using things in my stash.  I had fun revisiting my stash and seeing items from the past in a new light.  Something old can indeed become something new.

The postcard will go in the mail tomorrow to Norma in her new home in Florida.  Hope she likes it.

Letter G Quiltie from Penny

In the Fabric in Altered Arts 2 group we are doing a letter of the alphabet quiltie swap each month.  The letter for January was "G".  Penny is the hostess of the swap and she decided to throw in a challenge for January.  Our theme was Glitzy Garments.  I was lucky to receive Penny's lovely quiltie.  This is a fun group and the quilties are just the right size to swap.  You can see my "G" quiltie here.  I received the quiltie while we were on the cruise and am just finding time to post the photo.  Thanks Penny!

Heart Quiltie

This is my February quiltie for Fabric in Altered Arts 2.  Our theme has been letters of the alphabet.  February's letter is H and Penny, our hostess, added an additional theme "hearts".  I decided to find a heart quote for this quiltie.  I found this one and thought it was perfect for my "H" quiltie.  The red heart is a sample that I did with my embroidery machine before embellishing the napkins in the previous post (goal: to use "stuff" in my studio).  The flower is a costume jewelry pin I found at Goodwill  (another goal: to recycle and reuse thrifted items),  We are going to be quite busy the first of February so I have decided to work on projects in advance.  I'll mail the quiltie to Penny next week.

"Julia" Queen of the Kitchen

I received this lovely doll from my friend Norma. She was part of my wonderful Stocking Swap package from Norma. The Stocking Swap was arranged by Cathy on Fabric in Altered Arts 2. In addition to my stocking, I received this doll and many more wonderful fabric-related items. I have named my doll "Julia" Queen of the Kitchen. She is currently displayed among the red and white snowflake items on the wall in my breakfast nook. She reigns over the kitchen in her lovely red and silver outfit. I am extremely lucky to have received a doll made by Norma. I will cherish her. To see Norma's post of the swap click here.

"Woolie" the Halloween Gypsy Cat

Meet "Woolie" my Halloween Gypsy Cat for a swap on Fabric in Altered Arts 2. This is a one for one swap. They are due to hostess Cathy by the end of the month. I decided to use a felted 100% wool sweater as the body and arms and legs. The arms are the cuffs from the sweater and the legs are the bottom edge of the sweater. This sweater really felted well and I'm glad I was able to upcycle the thrift store find into little "Woolie".

September Fabric Postcard

This is my fabric postcard for September in the Fabric in Altered Arts 2 group. I mail to my friend Norma this month. Hope she likes this little card. The back reads "Wishing you a wonderful fall filled with bright colors and sunshine."
I have a new fabric postcard holder. I found it at the thrift store recently. It is a pink wooden photo holder but it works perfectly for my fabric postcard collection and it's pink. My studio is pink and green. I love the two colors. They are so cheerful and make me feel happy when I enter my studio.

July Quiltie - Letter B

This is my July quiltie for Fabric in Altered Arts 2. We are doing letters of the alphabet and July is the letter "B". I thought that a Blue Bird would be appropriate. I found the free applique pattern here. I decided to give the little quiltie a primitive look by using black embroidery floss to stitch around the bird and add the title. Last I added embellishments and finished the back and edges. I plan to get it in the mail to Penny the trade hostess this week. July is going to be another busy month and I wanted to get my swaps made early.

Fabric Postcard

This is a fabric postcard that I completed while watching America's Next Top Model this evening. I have decided to try and use things that I have in my studio for my new swaps. This is my postcard for May on Fabric in Altered Arts 2. The group decided to have a postcard swap each month but not have a theme. So I decided to use more of the sample class fabric (see fabric ATCs below). The image is from Vintage Workshop. Fibers are a gift from a Yahoo group friend. I love the finished postcard.
