Pink Saturday

Welcome to Pink Saturday

Happy New Year to all. I have decided to share my quilted bear with you on the first Pink Saturday of the new year. He is made from a quilt top that was sewn by my grandmother and great-grandmother sometime in the 1930's. I don't know why the top was never made into a quilt. By the time I received it from my mother in the 1970's, it had some very large stains. I made quilted pillowtops for my nieces from the largest unstained sections. I used some of the remaining quilt top to make this bear. He sits on a shelf in my studio and watches over me. He reminds me of my heritage as a quilter and fiber artist.
I don't have one specific project that I will be working on in 2010 but my goal is to be true to myself in my art and go where my creative self leads.

If you would like to see more pink, check out Beverly's How Sweet the Sound. I also enjoy visiting Sue's Collecting in Texas. Please stop by and tell her I sent you.

Have a wonderful 2010.

What a lovely memory you have. I also have a blanket that my Mom and Dad gave me that I would like to make into something for me and my sisters. There is not enough to make 3 bears though.

Have a great Pink Saturday. Terry

Wonderful memories in old quilts and old quilt tops, and you have done a great job of saving them with the bear and other items made for family members. I've quilted countless tops for others and always wished I had a quilt or top from my Grandmother Minnie. My Mom says they used them til there wasn't a scrap left! Thanks for the 'ShoutOut' and your much loved comments and visits to CollectInTexas Gal...Sue

What a wonderful way to preserve the memory and the quilt! I have a piece of my greatgrandmothers' quilt and some pieces from my grandmother. Wish my mom quilted-I think she was too busy raising all of us though! Happy New Year and happy pink week!

That bear is so sweet. What a great use of your left-over quilt top. I think it would make me smile to look over and see him sitting on your shelf, bringing back fond memories of your family. I think you have a great goal for 2010. I should adopt something like that myself. Mainly I need to make time for myself to make art. Happy Pink Saturday and Happy 2010.

Blessings,
Tricia

Hi Pam, Happy New Year! Love your little bear and the memories that are there when you look at him.

You sound like us, boxes waiting to be sorted through, ugh..that is another big goal, one box a day until they are all gone..
